The Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center is an advocate for deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, deaf-blind and related individuals to request and ensure the provision of appropriate accommodations.
We provide general information and workshops related to Americans with Disabilities Act (A.D.A.), the Individuals with Disabilities Act (I.D.E.A.) and Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
For persons who may have been denied accessibility to effective communication, we provide information regarding the complaint process and other avenues of recourse.
An ongoing effort to create community awareness regarding deaf and hard of hearing residents is accomplished through presentations to civic clubs, neighborhood and professional associations, businesses, churches, schools and participation in health fairs.
Lunch, Learn, and the Law, proudly funded by the Lee County Bar Association Foundation, is an educational outreach program of the Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center in Fort Myers, Florida. This unique training helps law enforcement, first responders, healthcare providers, legal and financial professionals, and local businesses improve communication with the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.
Our team will come directly to your workplace, provide lunch for up to 20 participants, and lead an engaging one-hour session taught by certified American Sign Language (ASL) instructors. Participants learn key ASL phrases, gain awareness of ADA law, and develop practical communication skills that improve accessibility and service.
By participating in Lunch, Learn, and the Law, your organization helps create a more accessible, connected, and informed Southwest Florida—ensuring that every interaction with a Deaf or hard-of-hearing individual is respectful, effective, and empowering.
Schedule your Lunch, Learn, and the Law session today by contacting Amy Turner, Executive Director, at amyturner@dhhc.life or (239) 461-0334.
